The Pirate Queen: No Safe Waters, the latest chapter in Singer Studios’ award-winning Pirate Queen storyworld, will premiere in competition at Cannes Film Festival 2026.

The Pirate Queen: No Safe Waters Selected for Cannes Film Festival’s Immersive Competition

The Pirate Queen: No Safe Waters, the latest chapter in Singer Studios’ award-winning Pirate Queen storyworld, has been selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Immersive Competition.

Created and directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Eloise Singer and narrated by Lucy Liu, the cinematic immersive experience is inspired by the extraordinary true story of Cheng Shih — the woman who rose from life as a courtesan to command the largest pirate fleet in history.

The project marks a major new milestone for The Pirate Queen, following the success of Singer Studios’ 2024 VR experience, which premiered at Tribeca and Raindance before going on to receive Emmy and PGA Award nominations.

The Pirate Queen: No Safe Waters will premiere as part of Cannes’ third Immersive Competition, which features eight selected works spanning large-scale video projection, virtual reality and immersive storytelling. The competition will run from May 12 to 22, 2026, at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes.
